Retirement of Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter
User dlocutor posted 15-Sep-2025 in johngies' topic Support Assist NOT working about the need for Dell to update their official documentation for performing a clean reinstall of SupportAssist due to deprecation of the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter (MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab). For example, the SupportAssist clean reinstall video on the official Dell Tech Support YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOkgM3JUpHM still includes instructions on how to use this Microsoft tool .
If I ask the Perplexity AI chat bot "has the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter been retired by Microsoft" it tells me:
"The Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter provided by Microsoft is still available for Windows 10 and Windows 11, but it is being deprecated and will be retired in future versions of Windows 11. Microsoft is shifting troubleshooting for install and uninstall issues to the built-in options found in the Windows Settings app, under Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters. As of September 2025, the traditional downloadable troubleshooter can still be used, but its official retirement is approaching and users are encouraged to utilize newer, integrated troubleshooting methods going forward."
I'm hoping Dell already as a plan in place to revise their official SupportAssist documentation to due to the retirement of this tool.
