(Redirected) DELL verification

Hi,


To start my story: 3 days ago me and my girlfriend decided to buy an XPS 13 laptop on the Belgian DELL website. Like any other online company we order something: we enter the payment data, delivery adress and all the stuff that is needed.  We think we ordered the laptop and we will receive it soon. Until we get a mail the same day from "Joe jacob", a mail seemingly comming from UK/Ireland telling us he tried to contact us by phone (never happened) to verify our purchase information. Wait a second? We just entered it on the website, we live in BELGIUM and we get contactad from the UK/Ireland?? How weird is that? Since no other online company ever verifies this, we think this is a scam... And nowhere on the dell website is being mentioned we would get a phone call or mail to verify our data?? (Just for one laptop?) The man from Dell tells us that if we don't verify he will cancel our order. (This is weird, last year I ordered the inspiron 15 inch 7000 and I never had to verify?)
We still think this is a scam so we tell him this on mail. He says that we can contact dell in Belgium to verify his email. So we tried... Couldn't get a hand on anyone in Belgium from Dell, we tried the phone number and we tried the email adress. (No respons from both)

Yesterday, Joe Jacob calls my girlfriend. She takes up the phone and a seemingly Indian man starts to talk to her with a weird accent. We live in Belgium, we get contacted from the UK from a man talking with an Indian accent? She still thinks this is a scam and tells him to leave her alone, and hangs up the phone. Yesterday evening we get a mail telling our order has being cancelled...

How on earth is it possible that an international company has no way to verify if an email is comming from their company or is a scam? How is it possible that we need to verify our data for the purchase of ONE laptop? How is it possible that nowhere on the website is being mentioned we still need to verify our order after we entered all our information online? How is it possible that we get contacted from other countries and not the one we live in?


We would still like to receive that laptop, WITHOUT all the hassle...
