(Redirected) AIO 2330 never able to get Microsoft updates

Friend's AllInOne Model 2330-00 Win 7 SP1 in service 4/19/12. Has NEVER been able to accept Patch Tuesdays updates. Tried all Microsoft service repair testing and suggestions.  Keep getting error that updates is not set up.  Rest of computer works fine - internet access, antivirus scanning, etc.  Data backed up to external HD.  Do I need to reset to factory status, or can I re-install Win 7 [no discs available, but I have the key.]
