Giving Back To Those Who Cannot Read Our "Help"
A Sunset Moon Rise Over Annapurna
After hiking to a ridge at 15,000 feet, I took photos of a 26,500 Annapurna to my south and 27,500 foot Dhaulagiri to my north. The sun was just setting and after taking about 75 "memories, I packed up my gear and started hiking down the trail back to my tent. I turned around one last time, which is common for anyone in these kinds of majestic surroundings and I couldn't believe it, but a full moon was rising behind Annapurna. Exhausted, I set up tripods and gear and begin to snap more memories.
Very rarely does one get to see such an amazing combination of a setting sun, the glow on one of fourteen 8,000+ Meter mountains on the planet, and the rising moon; all with perfect lighting. I was just seconds away from missing out on one of those photographic "once-in-a-lifetime" moments. Life is full of moments like this one when privileged to be trekking around the Dell Community or remote places like the boarder of Nepal and Tibet!
And if that wasn't enough; when I was headed back to my tent, I walked through a small village, and there peering over the ledge of her roof was young girl, mesmerized by a traveling stranger, who was beside himself with the joy of the Himalayas.
Seeing her on the roof with the same last rays of that setting sun; for one brief moment eclipsed the massive and majestic mountains with the light of the sun and moon adding to a photograph, words that only a photograph would later describe. Every thought was taken captive by the memory of a little girl, caked with dirt and mud, who would once again be left alone with dropping temperatures and another cold star filled night.
I realize now, more than ever, in our world of technological advancement, that there is another generation of children "somewhere out there", whose worlds are not "made smaller" by things like "social media". They need us just as much as they encouraged me with "so little" years ago.
As fast and furious, I would journal at the end of each incredible morning, day, and night; I never once was able to put into words the incredible experiences that I was blessed to behold. Every time I see one of these photographs, I am at a loss to try and relive the riches that my heart and mind are filled with to overflowing, of the memories of the amazing riches experienced in what is considered to be the world's poorest places.
I pray that these few photographs might lift your hearts up to places above the hardships and troubles we all experience down here in the valleys of technology. I am reminded of the simple words spoken 3,500 years ago, "Lift up your eyes unto the hills, from when comes my help."
I have been blessed beyond pictures or words by the smiles of the joy I have beheld from children who have so little and are amazingly able to provide renewed joy and hope, even now, when I am 10,000 miles away from them.
Today is my youngest grand daughter's birthday! Her name is Hazel and she is 2! I am so thankful for all the children in the world, that have always, amazingly, given joy to me when I have needed it, especially when I have been far from home, in this "wonderful world." I hope that the thoughts and ideas that each one of us shares here, and will "invest" in children here that will read our posts, and in those children around the world, that are unable to read them.
I hope "this kid", who has been so blessed to experience joy, indescribable, from so many beautiful and hidden places and people in this world, will be able to share with each of you, the blessing and joy I have been thankful to have known. and am encouraged to once again remember, because I can share them again with you; my fellow "Dell travelers"!
Blessings, to each one of you,
GB
