XPS 8500 (early 2012) WLAN 1703 Bluetooth not functioning / compatible replacements
I have a XPS 8500 (early 2012). A couple of months ago, the Bluetooth was functioning OK. A couple of days ago, it stopped recognizing any devices in the area (ipad, iPhone, Cricut explore, LG phone, etc.). Also, the applicable bluetooth devices could no longer see the computer as well (yes, discovery was turned on). I have opened the case and verified that there is a DW1703 mini PCIe WLAN card installed. All drivers installed and are current. The system indicates that all devices are operating properly. I have deleted all the drivers/software and reinstalled several times. The WIFI function is operating OK, just the Bluetooth is not working. First, can any one tell me what other WLAN cards with Bluetooth will function properly in this system? When I spoke to Dell parts department, they had no replacement DW1703 or DW1704 cards in stock. In the mean time, I ordered a USB Bluetooth, but still want to replace the card since if the Bluetooth is bad on the card, there is no telling how long the rest of the card may operate before failure. I was looking at an Intel 3160 dual band AC + Bluetooth mini PCIe card. Would this be an acceptable card to use in the XPS 8500? Also, on a side note, when I spoke to Dell parts, I was told that the Bluetooth was integrated directly on the motherboard and if I didn't use a USB Bluetooth, I would have to replace the entire motherboard for Bluetooth function. This is not accurate since the cards supplied by Dell in this system are a combo WIFI + Bluetooth WLAN card. Any suggestions on what I can try that I didn't mention in case the card is not bad? Then what is acceptable as a replacement card, by Dell, since Dell is currently out of stock on the 1703 and 1704 cards?

I installed a Intel Network 7260.HMWG.R Revised WiFi Wireless-AC 7260 H/T Dual Band 2x2 AC+Bluetooth about two months ago and it works great. I have an AC router and installed the latest Intel Drivers from their site. I highly recommend it. Let me know if you have any questions. It took about 10 minutes to install. I understand that the 7260 is twice as fast as the 3160 and it only costs about $10 more.

@Koeven Did you install a Dell branded AC 7260 or an Intel specific one? I tried the Dell branded and it won't let me install drivers for BT. Wifi works ok but BT drivers from Intel won't work. I tried Dell drivers but they all say not available to install. I'm assuming there is some BIOS restriction on Dell branded ones.
