WWAN: DW5821e "without esim" variant. What's the difference?

Hi,

When ordering a laptop, you can choose a a WWAN variant without eSIM (in this case the DW5821e).
What is the difference with the regular or with eSIM model? Does the eSIM variant not support regular sims?

Thanks

A WWAN variant with eSIM means that the laptop has an embedded SIM card, which is a virtual SIM card that is embedded in the device's hardware. This allows you to connect to cellular networks without the need for a physical SIM card.

On the other hand, a WWAN variant without eSIM means that the laptop does not have an embedded SIM card, and instead relies on a physical SIM card for cellular connectivity. This means you will need to obtain and insert a physical SIM card to use the WWAN functionality on the laptop.

The DW5821e is a WWAN module that supports both eSIM and physical SIM cards. Therefore, if you choose the eSIM variant, you can still use a regular physical SIM card if you prefer. However, if you choose the variant without eSIM, you will not be able to use an embedded SIM card, and will need to obtain and insert a physical SIM card to use WWAN.

Thanks, that's what I thought. It doesn't make sense, since then there is no reason to choose the non-eSIM variant.

Thank you, I had that thinking. It doesn't make sense because there would then be no benefit to selecting the non-eSIM type.
