wireless internet=working, wired internet not working

i have a dell xps15z.

in device manager, ethernet controller is listed as not working as if there isn´t a driver installed (in other devices, with a yellow warning, nothing in properties).

i´ve installed the atheros ar8152 driver (R296457.exe) and restarted my coputer several times. i still can´t get it to work...

i don´t really know what else to do now, help?

Hi dimikiller,

This is what I mentioned in my last reply. You have just unzipped the files but the drivers are not installed. Please make a note of the predefined path and once the files are unzipped navigate to that folder and then run the Setup file from there. Here are the steps:

  • Click on My Computer.
  • Double click on C Drive to access it.
  • Double click on the Dell folder to access it.
  • Double click on the Drivers folder to access it.
  • You will see a folder for the by the name R296450.
  • Double click to access it and run the Setup file from there.
  • Follow the similar steps for the other set of drivers.

Hope this helps. Please share the results.

Hi dimikiller,

Please share the Operating System installed. Also, share the screenshot of the Device Manager with Other Device and Network Controllers expanded. Here are the steps:

  • Press the key combination of 'Windows Logo' key + 'R' key to open 'Run' dialog box.
  • Type in 'devmgmt.msc' and click 'OK'.
  • The 'Device Manager' windows will appear.
  • Click on the sign next to Other Devices and Network Controllers to expand them.

Please check when you try to install the drivers, does it completes the installation process or just extracts the drivers and finish the process. If that is the case, then the drivers are not getting installed but just extracted in folder.

Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

If you had gone through that posting, you would not be getting your errors. The SM Bus Controller is especially telling.

Hi dimikiller,

Please install the drivers in below given sequence:

This shall resolve the issue. Make sure that you run the .exe file and complete installation. Please share the results.

i've tried to install these drivers in that order a few times now, but still no joy...

i have also gone through the reinstall guide completely (again..), and this also did nothing to help.

here is exactly what happens when i try to install the drivers you mention:

- i download the .exe file

-i double click on the .exe file, driver info screen appears.

-i click on continue, unzip folder location select screen appears.

-i use the predetermined location, so just press continue.

-it unzips the files and folders, and a window appears saying the files where successfully unzipped.

-i press ok, and then nothing more happens...

with some of the other drivers, an install sequence would start(from intel or nvidia or whatever...) but not with all drivers, and not with any of these two...

thank you!

i was not aware that some drivers needed to be installed manually in that fashion. i assumed all would do so automatically as some of them did.

thanks again, everyone (besides ieee488) on this forum has been very helpful, clear and kind in their responses.
