Wireless connectivty -is it necessary?
Hello, I am hoping someone can help with my problem. I own a Dell XPS 8900 desktop computer. The service tag is . This is a computer that never leaves my desk. Its is wired to a modem (Motorola Arris Surboard Modem 200 Series) via ethernet cable. Basically wireless connectivity is never needed. For some reason I keep losing my internet connection. When I try to troubleshoot I sometimes get "The system is unable to detect wireless networks". What I dont understand is why would I need a wireless network? On other occasions when I troubleshoot I get "troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem". I'd just like to figure the best way to resolve this problem - the problem being that I keep on losing my internet connection. To get it back I have to shut down the system and restart. But this business of suddenly and inexplicably losing my internet connection while I am using the computter is getting very irritating. I appreciate any help.

Thank you for your message.
How long have you been having this issue?
Has there been any recent software changes like game or anti-virus installation?
Do you get any error message when the network disconnects?
Open device manager- expand network adapter – right click on the wireless driver & click on disable.
Right click on the Ethernet driver & click on uninstall (do not check the box that says delete driver) restart the computer. This will refresh the driver.
Please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

I have pretty much the same setup. I just disable the wifi adapter in device manager as I don't need it. Should the occasion arise it can be easily re-enabled. To answer your question, no you don't 'need' wifi.
