WiFi keeps dropping in every five mins!

My WiFi connection keeps dropping in every five minutes, i have to disconnect and then reconnect to resolve the issue but then after five minutes it drops again and a small exclamation sign appears on the WiFi bar. I'm using a dell inspiron SE 7520. this problem started happening when i updated my pc to windows 8.1. I have tried to solve the issue by updating the driver  changing the wireless settings and also updating the bios but nothing seems to work.

I have a similar problem too, even when connected via ethernet with wifi off?

it always says "connected" but just won't load up any pages, either via my home broadband or via my personal hotspot on mobile.

definitely my system has other devices are fine.

I've searched this forum for solutions and for the last hour or so suffered no drops by changing the

"bandwidth capability" to 20/40MHz in the device manager settings.

touch wood this may have solved it, though not counting my chickens yet.

Hi shailandra jadeja,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS and then uninstall and reinstall the Wireless card driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS and then download the BIOS from BIOS section and then wireless card driver from Network section onto the Desktop screen.

http://dell.to/18r60nI

Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the wireless card.

  1. Open the charms bar by moving the mouse to right top corner of the screen and inthe search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
  2. Select the wireless card and Bluetooth device under Network Adapter and right click on it
  3. Now select properties.
  4. In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
  5. Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
  6. You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system and install the drivers by using the file downloaded on the desktop screen.

I had basically the same issue on a brand new 5535. Dell tried to fix it in Texas with no luck. It was reset 3 times by online tech with no avail. Finally after 5 attempts by dell to fix it, and third party Tech put in a new wireless card. No more Problem. Dell seems to have problems with 1704 and 1705 wireless adapter cards. One Dell tech said he had to tweak the configuration in his personnel computer.

I have essentially the same problem with my Dell Venue Pro 11 that  Shailandra describes.  Will the fix you describe work on my DVP11?  Thank you

It goes beyond the scope of dell because there is user interaction involved.

Try using a different network adapter because maybe that one used its bandwidth limit in a public wifi somewhere.

sometimes feel like launching this laptop out of the window!

i have an

Inspiron 17 (3721, Early 2013) & updated all drivers available

tweaked that bandwidth thing and seemed ok, today i can barely use the internet

i can connect via my home broadband wireless and wired and i also using my iphones personal hotspot, which has 4g

all 3 will stay connected at all times but it just wont load anything up at random stages

i'm not confident enough to fit a new adapter (unless someone shows its a simple process) so was looking at a usb wifi adapter now

I had this problem as well with this one: Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz)

The problem is with the wireless card but I was able to fix it by changing router settings. I downloaded something called wifi info view. The reason is it can show if you are getting any interference from your neighbors wifi. It shows the frequencies and channels that the other routers in the area are using. Normally they are on channels 1, 6, and 11. I just changed the channel my router was using to channel 9 rather than auto as it was set before. Since auto put it on one of those other 3 channels. Those were the channels my neighbors were using.

I also changed my wireless mode to 802.11n rather than mixed but that shouldn't impact whether changing the channel could fix the issue for you as well. I just mention it because I did that as well when I made the changes that finally fixed it. You should be able to find the details on how to connect to your router easily. Usually on the router but if not the manufacture manual or quick google search of the router model should find it as well. Usually you just enter 192.168.1.1 into a web browser to get into the router settings.

my router was on ch6 and the only other router nearby is on ch1

i've changed mine to ch11 so will see how it goes,

what puzzles me is the wife sat next to me on her ipad has no problems connected to wifi

our phone line cabling is pretty poor, stepson works for my isp and said the other day there is something major wrong with our speeds

so not sure if that's a cause but we're moving this week so i'll know by then if it was

(ps, sorry to the op for hijacking the thread, thought it was relevant to keep the same topic going than start a new one)

Yeah that is how I knew the issue was with the wireless card. I have a second laptop that I would run with this one. Also a kindle. The second one and the kindle would never lose internet and this would lose it often.

I did the changes recommended here first. I changed the advanced settings of the bandwidth on the wireless card in device manager to 20/40mhz auto like suggested. No change. Reinstalled drivers etc no change. So I changed to looking for solutions using the router instead. I haven't lost internet since changing it to channel 9 thankfully which has been for a few days now. I couldn't go an hour before. I hadn't bothered addressing the issue since I had the second laptop so if I had to download something I just used that one instead. But I dropped and broke that laptop which forced the issue.

If for some reason this setup stops working next I'm going to set up a second old router I have as a slave to boost signal strength and hope it has better compatibility.
