USE LAPTOP ON WIFI FOR DIRECT TV INTERNET
Can I use my laptop (8.1) that is connected to the internet via wifi, as a wired Ethernet connection to my Direct TV box so it has a internet connection?

Hey Rick, I travel the country in my motorcoach, it has a automatic Direct TV dish mounted on the roof just like on a house and the regular Direct TV HD DVR inside. I move locations about once a week. I'm in a campground under the trees, I'm getting all the channels, but the channel directory is not updating since I'm not seeing all three satellites. Connecting the Direct TV box to the internet would fix that, so I ran an Ethernet cable from the back of the Direct TV box through a router and to my laptop that is using campground wifi, but the Direct TV can't see it. I just wondered if I am even able to do that.

Jason Bell,
Not exactly sure what you're asking.
Direct TV needs their system connected to a phone line or a wireless connection. If it uses a wireless connection, Direct TV usually furnishes the wireless box for their system, then connect it to your wireless network.
If you want to watch Direct TV online, setup your account at DIRECTV - #1 Satellite TV - Beats Cable TV - 1-855-802-3473 then you can watch online, record it and even watch Dircet TV on your smartphone.

Jason Bell,
In my home, we are using DSL. There is no phone line where our main HD DVR box is located. Direct TV provided a wireless box, we have located in another room, it communicates with the HD DVR and the other 2 boxes in our home. It uses our wireless network to keep all three boxes communicating. We have the channel guide on all three systems.
I'm thinking that if you contact Direct TV, then can find a solution, maybe it's with using the wireless box like I have.

Thanks for explaining that better, now I understand, I won't want to use it for on-demand since I'm paying by the GIG on Verizon, but it might fix the channel listing problem when my motorhome is under the trees. THANKS!

Jason Bell,
When the system was first installed, we did not have On Demand. It was because the location of the DVR, we needed the wireless box, but it connected to our network. I think in most homes, you need the phone line to tell each box if your paid, etc.
