Styleicon24,
I would first try...
Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)
Restart the computer and try to connect.
What happens?
The 169/254 IP Address is a communication problem with the router and the modem.
Also what virus program and firewall are you using?

Thanks a lot for the reply... Had been in great dilemma not knowing what to do... I use avg anti-virus the free version 2014 and the firewall is the windows firewall itself (no additional softwares). I contacted the Dell customer care. They said I have to chnge the network card and reboot the system. It should do it. I ll try ur suggestion first.. If it does not work I'll go for the customer service. Thanks a lot :)
