New Venue 11 Pro 7140 Tethering connects but no network connection

I have tried to tether (hotspot) via my AT&T iphone 5s using WiFi and Bluetooth.  Both failed!

I did the same exact thing trying to connect to my MacBook Pro and it tethered using BOTH WiFi and Bluetooth.

What do I need to do on the Venue?  Both tries it says connected / paired BUT not network connection?  I can get WiFi from my house modem, but I purchased this two weeks ago to use in the field for my new job NEXT WEEK!

I have done online Chat, they send me to 800#, I call them and they give me the run around and say well just use WiFi!  I told them that will not work in the field, I have to tether.  Hmmmm phone line got disconnected.  Please help!

I read online that 7130 need to set wireless power to maximum but I can not find that option!??

I did get WiFi to work.  I read someplace that Venue does not recognize any )(*&^* characters  when used in device name.  My device name had and ' so I removed it and it now connects WiFi.  Bluetooth still not working but I will close this post since I was told that it will not work because of Apple.

ru1two,

On your iPhone...

Open settings

click on personal hotspot

turn it on

On the tablet...

Click on settings

turn on WiFi

Click on WiFi

Click on the name of your iPhone, then enter your password

On your iPhone, it should show you're connected. I don't think bluetooth is needed.

Thank you Rick but I am already doing that.  When I use WiFi it says connected but can not browse.  When I use Bluetooth I get paired but can not browse.  When I disconnect and use my home WiFi everything works so that tells me it is something about tethering on the Venue.

When I do the exact same thing but connect to my MacBook Pro, same steps, it works no problem.

Looks like has been going on for quite some time.  Since Venue 7   http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19534806

I just got WiFi to work but still no luck with Bluetooth.  Previously WiFi would connect, then drop and the stronger (house) WiFi would automatically pick up.   So now is a Bluetooth issue.. getting closer though.

Here is a discussion on Windows devices having problems tethering to Iphones.  Is this what you used to correct the problem with Wifi?   If you haven’t tried it yet, it may help with the Bluetooth connection as well.  Please let me know if it helps.

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.

    • On the Power Options screen, click Change plan settings for the Dell Power Plan.

    • On the Edit Plan Settings screen click Change advanced power settings.

    • On the Advanced Power Settings screen, click the + sign next to Wireless Adapter Settings.  Then the + sign for Power Saving Mode.  The setting for battery is probably Medium Power Saving.

    • Change it to Maximum Performance.  If the Plugged In setting is not at Maximum Performance, you should change that one as well.

ru1two,

In addition to what Terry said...

I would try deleting the bluetooth connections on the iPhone and the device, then try pairing them again. I can tether my iPhone with my Dell Venue 8 (3830), but I use the wireless connection

ru1two,

I forgot to mention. Just reread your post. You mentioned Verizon. Check wit a Verizon Rep and see if they disabled some bluetooth functions in your iPhone, like for tethering. I remember a coworker that could not connect using bluetooth and he had Verizon.

Thank you. I saw that previously and I can not find Wireless Adapter Settings on Venue 11 7140.  That post I believe was for a Venue 8 or 7.  I looked all over the Advance Power Settings but nothing for Wireless.

I am with AT&T, The Verizon post was a link of a similar problem that has been going on with Venue Pro's since Venue 7 and that person had Verizon.  Thank you .

When I contacted Dell they said that Bluetooth is not an option with iPhone, just WiFi.  Not sure that I agree with that since I can use Bluetooth on any other device except the Dell Tablet.

I don't have an apple phone to test, but I am not aware of any problems connecting via Bluetooth with the Venue.  I would like to see if any other users have tried it to post here, and if they was successful in doing so.

I also read one of your other posts about an external battery, was that resolved as well.  I you don't mind I will be sending you a friends request.  I would like to investigate your case history and see if I find if anything has been missed.

I would use the WiFi connection over Bluetooth. Bluetooth have a very short connection range, while the WiFi connection has a better connection range.

thank you Rick, understand but I just want everything to work like it should.  Will be returning probably next week and purchasing something that has everything that it should.  This unit really seems like it is proprietary.
