Need Drivers for E6420 after new Win 7 Professional

I just purchased a refurbished E6420 with Home Basic for an office. I wanted it to have the same OS as other computers...Win & Prof.  I had a disc from another E6420 and uploaded. and successfully installed Win 7 Prof.  I now cannot connect with the Internet.  When I input the computer and drivers I need in the Dell Driver pages, nothing comes up or software is listed and the E6420 is not showing. I'm in urgent need to get this computer operational.  Any ideas.  The computer says I'm looking for a Network Adapter Driver. I see devices: Ethernet Controller (VEN 8086 and DEV 1502) and Network Controller (VEN 14E4 and DEV 4359) ...guessing it is one or both of these.  Other drivers appear to be missing.

One help page suggests a correct order to install dirvers starting with the system utilities and network uitilities is #7....not sure what drivers I have and don't. If I can get online.....life would be good

Thank you.

please walk me through exactly how to get a command prompt, then I put in"WMIC BIOS GET SERIALNUMBER" exactly?

Can I purchase the Windows 7 Pro 32-bit license online from another computer since I can't get online?  Would that perhaps come with the needed drivers?

Thank you. I'm still not sure how to get the command prompt to get the service key?

"please walk me through exactly how to get a command prompt, then I put in"WMIC BIOS GET SERIALNUMBER" exactly?"

Yes, you can purchase a Windows 7 Pro license online - from any computer.  It will come with a product key that you will use to activate Windows.  I'd recommend reputable sellers such as Amazon or Newegg, rather than the super low-priced places that will probably show up in a Google search.

It will NOT come with any drivers.  You will still need to install them from the support.dell.com site and in the proper order (System Software first (if available), then Chipset, then other devices).

Refurbished should still have the serial number (Service Tag) ... it belongs to the system, not the company that originally owned it.  You can find the serial number (Service Tag) inside the BIOS or from Windows (by running WMIC BIOS GET SERIALNUMBER) from a command prompt.

"I had a disc from another E6420 and uploaded. and successfully installed Win 7 Prof."

This is not a valid upgrade.  You will need to purchase a Windows 7 Pro license for the E6420, since it is only licensed for Home Basic.

After sorting the licensing issues, are you going to be trying to load drivers for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

P.S.  There is not Service Tag on the computer.  Refurbished.

"I've found the Dell site not responsive to providing correct list of drivers without the service tag number."

The idea is that providing the Service Tag, the list of drivers will show you only the drivers/downloads that apply to your specific configuration (searching generically by model, ALL possible drivers/downloads will be shown, regardless of configuration - you have to sift through to find the ones you need, but at least the list is complete).  I've found that feature to be very hit/miss.  So, if you have issues with drivers not being shown you, then search by model instead of Service Tag.

Thank you. I've found the Dell site not responsive to providing correct list of drivers without the service tag number.  I was able to find it and have a better list of what I need.  Thank you.

You won't need the Service Tag unless you are talking to Dell about your specific system, but hopefully these pictures will help you put a visual to my instructions:

I've spent hours searching and attempting to download a driver to reconnect to the internet on a newly refurbished Latitude. I've found the Service Tag # and searched Dell's site, downloaded all the drivers (on another computer) they recommend and still nothing. Otherwise the computer seems to operate fine but can't do much with out the Internet. The Internet worked before I loaded the new OS.  What are next, effective options.

Well, Hallelujah...the Internet is working. I somehow got a couple different lists from the Dell site and while most were the same a couple were different.  I also got the file you mention here in the second list, after my last note.

Thank you.
