Lan card missing in device manager under network adapters
HI,
I'm using Inspiron n4010. Recently my hard drive failed, I replaced it with another one and since then I'm unable to connect to the internet with my cable, though my wifi is working well. Also when I tried to install the network drivers it said installer can't find Ethernet controller on your system. Kindly help.
Thanks in advance.

The NIC is defective... As far as Windows is concerned there is no NIC so the driver will not install.
Motherboard replacement is a bit extreme for just a broken NIC. Its possible to get a USB to Ethernet cable:

Hi Pranay J,
Please check for any unknown device in the device manager. Also, I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the computer. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS required onto the system and install it.

Please let me know the findings.

Hi DELL-RAVI BC,
Thanks for the reply, I have already tried updating the BIOS to the latest version but to no help. Also I don't see any unknown device in the device manager. I have also ensured that the Integrated NIC in the advanced settings of BIOS is enabled.

Hello Ravi,
I tried to find out my current system configuration under product support page and found the network card module empty while rest of the modules indicated some or the other information, does that mean the NIC is not connected properly to the motherboard or to the ethernet port that made it unidentifiable.

Disable the NIC in the BIOS setup and load Windows. Then shutdown and enter the BIOS setup again. Re-enable the NIC, check the device manager does it show?
If it doesn't show the NIC has likely failed.

hi,
I even tried that order of reinstalling the drivers. I faced a problem while installing drivers using the drivers cd provided by DELL, before i could install the drivers hardware scan has showed the presence of a few hardware but failed to detect a few could that be a software problem or a hardware failure.

thanks for the reply, i have already tried what you have said but to no use. In case of a failure of NIC is it possible to get it repaired or should i replace the entire motherboard
