Dumb question
I have a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) laptop with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 adapter. I use a Netgear N-900 dual-band wireless router for my home network. Will my laptop connect to the 5 GHz band, or am I limited to the 2.4 GHz band? I can connect the laptop only to the 2.4GHz band. The 5 GHz doesn't show up on the laptop as an option.
Thanks.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure that is a 2.4 ghz only card. I checked their tech specs page and it doesn't mention the 5.0 ghz range at all. Which, if it was capable of handling it, they would. Also, on this sales page for the card it also only lists 2.4 ghz.

Thank you, Todd. To get the 5.0ghz range, would the Intel Centrino 6300 mini pci-e wireless Card work in my Dell XPS 15 (L502X) Laptop? I think so, but I'd like to confirm that. Thanks again.

Hi
The Intel WiFi Link 6300 Wireless-N + Bluetooth 3.0 Mini-Card was one of the options that eventually came out for the L502x model, so you should be able to use it. But it has to be the mini-card version, not pci-express cards.

Yup, that looks like the card you'll need.
Compare the form factor to this:

I should also mention that I downloaded the driver from the Intel site and successfully installed. I know I'm using my router's 5.0 Ghz band, too.

I removed the old card and installed the new one. Seems to be working fine--except that my download and upload speeds are pretty much the same as they were using the 2.4 Ghz band--30.03 Mbps download and 6.13 Mbps upload. Did I miss something? Thanks.
