Dell Vostro 430

I was wondering if my Dell Vostro 430 Supports Wake-on-LAN (WOL) from shutdown. I've been looking everywhere for documentation on whether it supports it but am having no luck!

pol212,

The settings are located in the bios power management section. To enter the bios start the computer and TAP the F2 key,

Resume by LAN

Allows the system to wake up from an onboard LAN, PCIE-X1 LAN card, or a PCI LAN card.

Available settings are:

  • Enabled
  • Disabled

The default setting is Enabled.

Resume by PS2

Allows the system to wake up from an activity on the PS2 device such as Keyboard and Mouse.

Available settings are:

  • Enabled
  • Disabled

The default setting is Enabled.

Resume by RTC

If enabled, the two settings below are active and adjustable:

  • Auto Power On Date — Sets the start-up date.
  • Auto Power On Time — Sets the start-up time.

The default setting is Disabled.

Low Power Mode

When Low Power Mode is enabled, it allows the system to consume minimal amount of power (less than 1W) during it is turned OFF. This feature needs to be disabled when the system is required to Wake up on LAN.

Available settings are:

  1. Disabled
  2. Enabled
A NOTE indicates important information that helps you make better use of your computer. NOTE: When the Low Power Mode is enabled, WOL(Wake-Up On LAN) will not be able to function.

ACPI Suspend type

Sets the energy-saving mode of the ACPI function. It determines the Standby mode in the operating system.

Available settings are:

  • S1(POS)
  • S3(STR)

The default setting is S3 (STR).

A NOTE indicates important information that helps you make better use of your computer. NOTE: When you select S1 (POS) mode, the power does not shut off and the supply status remains as it is. But when you select S3 (STR) mode, the power is cut off after a delay. The computer’s status before it enters STR is saved in memory, and the computer can quickly return to that previous status when the STR function wakes.

AC Recovery

Determines what action the computer will take when power is restored.

Available settings are:

  • Last State
  • Power On
  • Power Off

The default setting is Power Off.

Network

The Broadcom NetLink 57780TMGigabit Ethernet controller has a triple-speed IEEE 802.3 compliant Media Access Controller (MAC) with a triple-speed Ethernet transceiver, PCI Express bus controller, and embedded memory. It interfaces over four different physical layer standards through optical fiber (1000BASE-X), twisted pair cable (1000BASE-T), or balanced copper cable (1000BASE-CX).

Features

  • IEEE 802.3 compliant with Support for IEEE 802.3x Flow Control, IEEE 802.1p QOS/Priority Packet
  • Wake on LAN (WOL)
    1. Wake on DirectedPacket (ARP & Ping) from S1 & S3/S4 states WakeOnLAN only in the AC powered state
    2. ACPI WakeOnLAN support
    3. Wake on Magic Packet from S1, S3 and S4 states (AC Only)
  • PXE/RPL support (F12 during POST)
  • DOS driver support for unattended installs
  • Behavior of RJ-45 Speed LED and Activity LED supporting "link/activity" and "traffic" status
