Dell Inspiron 14-5447 Wifi adapter problem
Hi,
I bought my laptop Feb'15. From the past one month my laptop wifi adapter is crashing suddenly. It shows that it is active in the adapter settings but doesn't connect to any network or even show available networks. When I try disabling and re-enabling the adapter my laptop hangs or I get a BSOD. I have tried updating the drivers. Please help !!

Also, take a look at the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center. There are a few things you can do to try to improve signal strength.
There are a few other steps you can try and they are outlined in the article linked above.

Hello,
Let's see if I can help. Are you still running Windows 8.1 on that system or did you upgrade to Windows 10? Also, I don't believe you stated which wireless adapter you have in the system or which driver version is currently installed. Please let us know.
One thing I would recommend is checking the wireless card itself and making sure it's firmly connected to the antennas. Here is a link to the online user manual for the Inspiron 14 5447. Directions on how to access the wireless card start on page 22 of that manual.
Lastly, do you notice any issues with the wireless connection strength prior to the wifi adapter crashing? Does it seem to happen when you're doing anything specific, or any specific web pages, etc? Have you tried the laptop in another wireless network, such as a coffee shop, and, if so, do you see the same thing happening there?
Please let us know the answers to the above questions, and try reseating the wireless card to see if that helps.

Hi Todd,
Thanks for getting back and yes the wifi network was always weak when compared to other laptops and even my phone, but the problem of crashing is relatively new. I have an Intel dual band AC 3160 adapter. the driver version installed is 17.16.0.4 downloaded from the Intel website. The problem persist with other wifi network also I have tried it Starbucks friends places. I am currently using windows 7. There is no problem with signal strength prior to crashing but it has always been weaker compared to other devices. I haven't opened up my laptop to physically check the adapter, I am concerned about warranty breaches. Please help!!
Another request I have been trying to call dell tech support for a month now every time a wait almost an hour and it gets disconnected, whenever I do get connected to an executive they repeat no responsive received and disconnect the call. Today the same thing happened. Dell is one of the leading companies that caters home users such poor reputation will only hurt the companies reputation.

Hello,
Opening up the system to reseat the wireless card and check the antenna leads will not affect the warranty. If the signal strength is low that is what I recommend that you try.
You don't mention whether you're running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows but there appears to be a driver version 18.20.0 that you might want to try.

Thanks! I had very similar symptoms.
Updated Drivers...nothing.
Reseated antennae...nothing.
Wifi signal appeared strong but was only fast if I was right near the router. I upgraded the router and had minimal improvement...until I connected to the 5 Ghz band. That did the trick and I'm now replying from what was formerly a wifi dead zone. Not sure if there was interference or if there was something wrong with the other band.
