Cannot connect Arris wireless to Inspiron 3558

Inspiron 3558 will not recognize Arris G36 modem.  Have updated Windows and wireless drivers.  I'm fine with 2.4GHz if this laptop can't operate on 5 GHz.  Suggestions??
