can a WD19 dock cause power surge?
I connected a Lenovo Thinkpad P14S Gen2 (AMD) to the WD19 dock and all seemed to work well. As this was day before Christmas long weekend I turned laptop off and also the power strip where everything is plugged in. When I came back after long weekend the laptop would not power up at all, with WD19, OEM 65W power supply, or just battery. The tech tried many things and ended up replacing the MOBO, and said he had no idea what could have caused it but it was likely a power surge. As the power strip was turned off the only source of a surge could have been the WD19! Is that possible? I am certainly weary of attaching the WD19 to the laptop again.

Hello,
It's possible that a power surge could have caused the issue with your Lenovo ThinkPad P14S Gen2 (AMD) laptop. Although turning off the power strip would have provided some protection against power surges, it's not a guarantee against all types of electrical events.
A power surge can occur when there is a sudden increase in electrical current in the power supply, which can cause damage to electronic devices like laptops. This can be caused by lightning strikes, power outages, and other electrical disturbances.
If you're concerned about using the WD19 dock again, you may want to consider using a surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to help protect your laptop and other electronics from power surges. Additionally, you can contact Dell support for further assistance and advice on how to protect your devices from power surges.
I hope this helps!
