Brand new XPS13 is slow
Can anyone tell me why my brand new XPS13 (delivered yesterday) is very slow on the internet. I thought it was going to be a lightening fast experience, but it's painful at times and slower than an older Toshiba I had borrowed while deciding what to buy. I am using the same wireless broadband that we've always had and only trying to access simple sites light BBC news, my work network and files, and so on. I am not streaming, downloading or watching - not that that should matter since this has a 512 GB SSD, 16GB RAM and various other super-sized capabilities. As yet I do not even have any files stored.
Can someone help? I am disappointed at the performance so far.

You might want to consider upgrading your router's firmware.

Hi Robert, I followed the link to 'Troubleshooting Slow Wireless Internet Performance' and did my best to understand the instructions! I re-installed the wireless drivers and also ran a check for any updates for my system and installed those too. My internet may be a little faster, but it's hard to tell. The one thing I noticed was that in following the instructions for the second tip, once I got as far as the 'advanced' tab under the 'configure' option I did not find any reference to 802.11n Mode or anything like it. I googled my query and found the same advice, with screen shots... and I definitely do not get the list I am looking for. Instead, I get a list that begins with 'D0 PacketCoalescing' and ends with 'Wireless Mode'. When I select 'Wireless Mode', the dropdown menu to the right presents me with a list that goes from '01 - 11b' all the way to '12 - 11a/b/g/n/ac'. I tried repeatedly, and even went back and reinstalled the drivers several times. Needless to say, it makes no sense to me at all, and I was unable to follow that tip to the end.

What benchmark are you using to test your internet speeds? One of the better ones is www.speedtest.net try that wired and un wired to get an idea of your speed and whether or not your methods are improving the speed or not.

Bench mark? Just my very unscientific 'this seems slower than it ought to be' method! :-) Thank you for the tips. I shall perhaps initiate a conversation online and see what they have to say. I am totally clueless, and even the tech terminology is 'all Greek to me'. All the best and thanks again.
