VRRP question please
Dear All,
Sorry for a silly question.
Currently I am configuring VLAN for S4128, according to Dell's best practice, I should configure VRRP as well.
Here is the table
Purpose | VLAN | SW01 | SW02 | VRRP |
ESXi Management | 192 | 192.168.3.251 / 24 | 192.168.3.252 / 24 | ?? |
In vMware environment
Purpose | VLAN | HOST1 | HOST2 | GATEWAY |
ESXi Management | 192 | 192.168.3.18 | 192.168.3.19 | 192.168.3.1 |
My question is that:
Host1 and Host2 are registered in DNS with the gateway 192.168.3.1 and FQDN (host1.mydomain.com, host2.mydomain.com)
what is the VRRP I should enter? or I should get different IP for VRRP e.g 192.168.3.253? it should not matter to the real gateway 192.168.3.1, shouldn't it?
Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.
Regards

Hello,
not sure what you mean, the virtual router group address need to be unique, so you have to assign a different IP for VRRP.
Thanks

Thank you Marco for the help.
In our private network we are using subnet 192.168.3.0 /24, Gateway: 192.168.3.1, Host1 and Host2 are configured as follows:
Host1
IP (Static): 192.168.3.18, Gateway: 192.168.3.1, DNS: 192.168.3.120, FQDN: host1.mydomain.com.
Host2:
IP (Static): 192.168.3.19, Gateway: 192.168.3.1, DNS: 192.168.3.120, FQDN: host2.mydoman.com
I was concerned if I used different IP for VRRP, would they (hosts and SAN) be able to "talk"?
As you mentioned it needs to be unique, I'll give it a try.
Thanks again.

Are you able to tell us what the device the gateway is in the above scenario? What is the topology? We have two S4148F switches. There is then a VRRP group with a virtual address. This means if one core switch goes down downtime is limited as it knows to send it to the master address (core switch 2)
OS10# show vrrp brief
Interface Group Priority Prempt State Version Master addr(s) Virtual addr
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
vlan104 IPv4 1 100 true backup-state 2 10.100.5.253 10.100.5.254

Hello @supadan,
Is your question for @ctvu ? Or for Dell Support? If you need technical assitance, could you please give more information?
Regards.
