S5448f-ON DAC QSFP28 Support
I recently purchased four QSFP28 DACs from Dell to connect to my 400G Dell S5448f-ON switch.
Product link: Dell Networking Cable QSFP28 to QSFP28 100GbE Passive Copper Direct Attach Cable, 3m
I am trying to run tests with a traffic generator connected to the Dell switch, but the module does not link up. To troubleshoot, I connected the module back-to-back to the traffic generator without issues and to a 100G Arista switch, also without issues. This leads me to believe the problem is specific to the S5448f-ON switch.
I have reviewed forums where some users recommend disabling auto-negotiation and FEC. However, when I attempt to turn off FEC, I receive the following error message:
Error: ethernet1/1/3 FEC mode 2 is not supported with speed 400000
I have also tried enabling and disabling flow control on both ends and ensured the MTU sizes match. The media inventory shows the "qualified" value as True, and there are no relevant debug logs. Initially, I was using third-party optics, but after encountering issues, I purchased Dell-compatible optics designed for this switch. Unfortunately, I still haven’t had any success.
Could this be a programming issue with the optics?
If anyone has additional suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate your input.

"NOTE: SFP56-DD 100GbE ports on S5448F-ON use PAM4 technology (i.e. 2x50G SerDes), and not the NRZ technology (i.e. 4x25G SerDes). QSFP28 optics and break-out will not work on the SFP56-DD (or S56DD) ports."
So which port do you use exactly?

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/smartfabric-os10-emp-partner/smartfabric-os-user-guide-10-5-6/link-training?guid=guid-24a06e82-8337-4b4a-acd1-4b1d4af45943&lang=en-us
Please go through this. Link Training feature should be enabled on the switch.
For DAC, when auto-negotiation is configured to auto, link training must be manually configured to auto. Similarly, when auto-negotiation is disabled using the no negotiation command, link training must also be disabled using the no link-training command.

what is the current version of OS10 firmware on the switch? Also what is the current firmware version? Are they up to date?
Hope this helps.

@DELL-Young E Thanks for your reply, I am using 10.5.3 OS10 version. Where can I find information to upgrade the firmware? Thanks for the help!

You need to take a look into your Dell Digital Locker. Firmware for Dell S Series Switchs are not for free download. A ProSupport contract is needed to get access to the downloads. A Basic support contract only contains the rights for downloads in the first 90 days.

@Origin3k Thanks for your response! I bought the modules from Dell, but not the switch, so I do not have a registration code. Is there a way to purchase the firmware without one?

Hello,
for this you have to contact a sales team because our technical support is not aware about what you can buy.
Thanks

Hi, apologies for the delay. On my current version 10.5.3 is link training on by default or not supported?
The traffic generator does not support link training, so it needs to be off on both ends to establish a link.
