S4048 firmware upgrade
Hello,
Our core switch is an S4048-ON with v9.10(0.1) and we'd like to update to latest firmware. When searching the product page there are several versions available. Two OS and one firmware? I assume v9.14.2.17 is the one we want, but what is "Firmware Updater?"
Thanks in advance for clarification!

The sub-component section is a set of steps that should be completed after the OS9 update.
The commands are rather simple. If it matches then say "no" if it doesn't match then say "yes"
once all commands are finished then reload the switch.
The guide is a touch confusing, but I hope that helps.

Hello, have you tried clinking on the thing that says firmware updater? Does it give you a definition/explanation?

Hello,
The ON part of the S4048-ON means "open network" which is to say that it has pre-boot partition called an ONIE (Open Network Install Environment) that is so that if you'd like to install a 3rd party networking operating system such as Cumulus or BigSwitch you'd be allowed (not supported by Dell of course).
The "Firmware Updater" is to update the ONIE aspect. It is not often a required update. In later documentation the use of the keyword "firmware" will often refer to the ONIE or base hardware while the 9.x.x.x will be preferred to as OS.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the responses.
We don't use ONIE, so v9.14.2.17 it is. Next question and apologies for the unfamiliarity with the S-series upgrade process. We tried to find a clearer step by step since the release notes are a bit confusing.
In release notes it has this:
Then, further down the doc it has this section, which does not mention sub-components:
We just need to know the correct step by step. Sub-components first, then OS/firmware or straight to OS upgrade?
For example, when upgrading an N-series switch - download new firmware to backup, set boot backup image as next active, after reboot update bootcode (if needed) and then cpld.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks again for the help!

Could you refer to this? You will be able to see how to update firmware.

Thanks Muzz, that helps. And "a touch confusing" is an understatement!
Take care
