RSPAN

Hello,
I would like to configure RSPAN:
Source: Left switch
Destination: Right switch
No connection between them.
I don't understand how to configure the source switch and destination switch - the switches (Dell) asked me to choose source port and reflector port and there is no any connection between the switches.

Please help.

Hi,

If there is no connection between the 2 switches, how can your client communicate with the server?

You will need physical connection established. Then you can proceed with configuration.

OK. So, I just plugged the Ethernet cable into GigabitEthernet 1/0/8 on the left switch and connected it to an unused port on the right switch. How can I proceed, please?

Hello,

RSPAN is an advanced configuration we cannot do it via this forum as too many variables.

To summerize you can be interested in this procedure

I don't understand who are the source and destination here:
1. monitor session 1 source interface gigabitethernet 1/0/1
2. monitor session 1 destination  remote vlan 100 reflector-port gigabitethernet 1/0/5

My purpose is to mirror traffic from interface Gi1/0/6 and see the traffic on the right switch interface, TenGigabitEthernet 2/0/18.

Right switch: Dell N4000 10gb Stack
Left switch: Dell N1124T 1GB

Here are the concise steps to proceed with the configuration:

On Both Switches:

Define the RSPAN VLAN (e.g., VLAN 100) that will carry the mirrored traffic.

On the Source Switch (Left Switch):

Configure the source port (e.g., Gi1/0/6) for monitoring.
Define a reflector port, which should be the port connected to the right switch (e.g., Gi1/0/8).

On the Destination Switch (Right Switch):

Set up the destination port (e.g., Te2/0/18) to receive the mirrored traffic.
Ensure VLAN Configuration:

Verify that the RSPAN VLAN is allowed on the interconnecting ports and all trunk links between the switches.

Please ensure that the configuration is applied correctly on both devices.

Regards

Hello,
Thank you for your answer.
There is a someone who tried to configure for me the left switch:

I don't understand please if you can help me. He doesn't want to a answer but I asked him to copy the traffic from Gi1/0/6(left switch) to the right switch (tengigabitethernet 2/0/18). Also he asked me to connect a cable between the left switch - port Gi1/0/8- and connect it to to right switch (interface 14). That's how he configured it:

console(config-if-Gi1/0/6)#switchport trunk allowed vlan add 90

console(config-if-Gi1/0/6)#exit

console(config)#exit

console(config)#monitor session 1 source interface gigabitethernet 1/0/8

console(config)#monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 90 reflector-port gigabitethernet 1/0/6

console(config)#exit

console#wr

console(config)#monitor session 1 mode

Is this OK according to what I asked?
I don't understand.

Thanks

First of all, I must say that we cannot actually provide configuration support directly. Our users in our community can also contribute. From what I've read of the thread, maybe you can take a look at it below. But for more, you can contact our network support team in your location.

As I can review and see you should use same RSPAN VLAN on both switches. Because you use VLAN90 but also there is VLAN100 Ensure RSPAN VLAN is configured as a remote span VLAN. With this command remote-span under the VLAN configuration mode.

I think following commands may to fix the errors:

On the left switch (source switch):

console(config)#monitor session 1 source interface gigabitethernet 1/0/6
console(config)#monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 90 reflector-port gigabitethernet 1/0/8
console(config)#exit
console#wr

On the right switch (destination switch):

console(config)#monitor session 1 source remote vlan 90
console(config)#monitor session 1 destination interface tengigabitethernet 2/0/18
console(config)#exit
console#wr

the reflector port (Gi1/0/8 on the left switch) should be connected to a port on the right switch that is a member of VLAN 90.
