PowerConnect 2816 Guest VLAN for WiFi Internet Access

I have an old PC2816 running that I wish to use to set up a guest network on Port 2.

All other ports are used for home networking (so all devices see each other). The addresses are 192.168.2.x

The idea is to connect a cheap WiFi router (which can provide DHCP addresses on a different subnet - say 192.168.3.x) on port 2, and create a WiFi guest subnet with internet access only. They should not be allowed to view devices on the 192.168.2.x subnet.

The manual on page 94 says:

Guest VLANs — Provides limited network access to unauthorized ports. If a port is denied network access via port-based authorization, but the Guest VLAN is enabled, the port receives limited network access. For example, a network administrator can use Guest VLANs to deny network access via port-based authentication, but grant Internet access to unauthorized users.

I have absolutely no idea how to configure the VLAN / Guest VLAN features of the PC2816 to this end.

Can my goal even be implemented with the hardware that I have? If so, how do I proceed (configure) the PC2816 to attain this? Any pointers or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Molasar49,

What you are wanting to do is possible, but you won't need to use the guest vlan feature most likely. What you can do is get an Access Point instead of a router, then connect that to the switch and put it on a separate vlan, then you can use the existing router to handle it being a guest vlan.

Let me know if this helps.
