Packets dropped over VLT

Switches: S5224F-ON in VLT pair (A&B) in a data center.

OS10: 10.4.3.6.244

SVIs on both switches

This switch pair connects out to an Extreme switch at a customer site over a private Ethernet line connecting to switch B.

When bringing the line up we noticed the customer could ping the svi on switch B but not on switch A. At times switch B itself could not ping the svi on switch A. It seemed to happen more often on a vlan that was native on the Ethernet line. We removed that so that all vlans were all tagged and the problem appeared to disappear.

Later, we introduced a 2nd link and RSTP (to another pair of OS10s in another data center which are linked back to the pair in question, forming a potential loop).

Failed over to backup link: all good

Failed back to the primary: connectivity problems again, apparently over the VLT link to the other switches svi.

It seems like after about 30mins the problem disappears...

Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. OS10: 10.4.3.6.244 --> this is firmware impacted by X509 certs issues, so have you updated x509 certs on VLT switches? If your system is still in warranty, you could also call up the phone support and ask them to check out your logs. Have a great one ^^

This looks like the problem. Thanks.

If we were to upgrade the firmware, is the ONIE route necessary or is this method fine for this type of upgrade: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000103012/dell-emc-networking-how-to-update-os10-on-a-switch-running-os10 ?

Hello  wanatkinson,

As Young E mentioned, you could contact phone support, as support can additionally check logs and it could help to isolate the issue.

Thanks.

That method should work. It looks like that SR is being assigned to a tech, the weekend just delayed it.
