N3048P firmware upgrade path

I have inherited a network full of n3048P switch stacks of various firmware versions and am trying to get them all up to date. I have found on a few with versions 6.1.x.x and 6.2.x.x that after uploading the new file, as per the documentation, the old version still shows as the backup image. I have also tried staging it with uploading version 6.3.3.14 but still have the same result.

Is there a staged step through of releases that I need to do to get these upgraded or am I missing something else?

Hi,

Are you referring to the backup image partition remain old version as the issue?

The backup partition will not automatically update to the version that you have updated on the primary partition. You will need to also update the backup partition.

On a side note, do remember to update the CPLD version also. You can refer to the PDF Upgrading Dell Networking N3000_N2000 Series Switches From Version 6.x.x.x to 6.3.3.10 in the folder of the firmware download.

Thanks Joey, I'm referring to the backup image partition not updating after running the "copy tftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/N3000_N2000v6.3.3.10.stk backup" command not updating the backup version number.

With the CPLD version update can we skip it from 13 to 20 or does it need to go via version 17 as well?

Generally, it is good practice to not skip anything marked Urgent, or a massive amount of updates, I would jump a few and then a few more, until current.

Agreed that is best practice but I had been hoping I could get these upgraded to current version so I can then implement a more immediate patching process going forward with minimal downtime due to reboots as installing each and every firmware version on 30 odd stacks is going to cause some major disruptions to the organisation.
