Fiber questions with 2724

What is the maximum fiber length for connecting one 2724 switch to another? I have 62.5 MMF fiber installed, I dont know the exact length of the run but its probably over 500 meters. 1000base-sx seems totally eliminated, how far can I run with the 1000base-lx and a mode conditoning patch cable? Lastly, if the fiber is too long what happens? Does performance switch down to 10 or 100 or does it just stop working? Thanks, Dustin

You can shoot 1310nm through a mode-conditioning patch cord and reach 500 meters over 62.5u multimode. See

for some notes on distances with Cisco optics. Other vendors should be similar, but ask what the power budget is (Cisco's is 7.5db). Cheaper optics may be less than that.
