Dell PowerEdge 2824 I2C test result
I ran the I2C "HOST" test on a Dell PowerConnect 2824 and got a failing result. Being new to Dell switches, I could imagine some hardware configurations where this test wouldn't be expected to pass on some models.
The pertinent serial output is as follows
HOST Tests
[1 ] DRAM
[2 ] Flash
[3 ] UART
[4 ] Timers
[5 ] I2C
[6 ] Hardware Reset
[7 ] Test All
[8 ] Esc

Hi,
I did some research and compared it with another model. There is a difference that PC2824 does not control I2C initialization during POST. The link here is on page 50 https://dell.to/33WoIcy
But for example, if PC 5224 is, I saw that it initialized I2C during POST. Page 11 https://dell.to/33R12Gc I think that is why you received this warning on PC2824 during the HOST test. So I don't expect it to pass this test
Let us know if it helps!

Thank you @Dell-ErmanO, I very much appreciate your insight on this. Your conclusion seems logical to me given the comparison of startup messaging between switch series.
That said, I'm going to have an identical switch in my possession next week so I should be able to compare the two. I will update this thread with the results -- at this point I expect both will fail the test in question.

@Dell-ErmanO I just performed the HOST test battery against a second identical PowerConnect 2824 -- it too failed the I2C test. Thus, your conclusion has been verified; the PC 2824 will not pass this test, by design.
Thanks again!
