Dell Networking SmartFabric OS10: Password Recovery
I tried to recover the password for an "admin" account on a Dell Switch with OS10 in my test lab. I followed the procedure as described on the next page.

After booting the switch in the GRUB mode I am able to change succesful the "admin" password. After reloading the switch I am not able to login with the "admin" account and new password. Because the "admin" account in my test lab is not locked I tried the old password and I'm able to login. Can someone explain why the "admin" password is not changed after following the procedure?

VRMware,
To start, would you confirm what switch you are working on, as well as what version of OS10 you are using?
Also, is the switch up to date?
From the details provided, the things I would look at are
The new password might not have been saved properly. Ensure you use the write memory
command after changing the password to save the configuration.
There might be a step missing or incorrectly followed in the password recovery procedure. Double-check the steps to ensure everything was done correctly.
Different versions of OS10 might have slight variations in the password recovery process. Ensure you are following the procedure specific to your OS10 version.
Let me know what you see and if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H It's a MX9116n with Dell OS 10.5.6.x.x. I followed and double checked the procedure several times. The "write memory" option isn't described in the procedure. Is the "write memory" option available in GRUB mode?

The write memory command is shown in step 5 and also in step 9 on the guide you linked. It is what will save that change nefore the restart, without doing that would cause it to not be saved and reverts back on the restart.

@DELL-Chris H For security reasons, I have disabled the linuxadmin account. So if I understand the procedure correctly, first I need to reactivate the linuxadmin account and change the linuxadmin password. Then I restart the switch and follow the procedure to reset the administrator password. I will try it tomorrow and update the results here. Thanks so far.
