Dell N2024 Hostname mapping and Bind IP to Vlan

There are IPV4 entries for hostnames and Binding IPs to Vlans.   Do these entries have a functional purpose or are they largely documentation. (Documentation alone is not bad.)  Can hostnames be used in ACL rules maybe?  Does the IP binding to a Vlan provide any functionality like filtering?  Is there a means of entering similar information for IPv6 addresses?  I have not found the IPv6 pages to enter similar data.
