Thuso,

Without specifics on the switch type I will give you the general steps for both series.

For N series switches the process can be found here

For S series switches the process can be found here

Let me know if this helps.

@DELL-Erman O the switch model is a Dell EMC S4128F-ON and the OS version is Debian GNU/Linx 9 (OS10) please see below:

I want to recover the password without resseting my current password I am unable to go into the GUI when I do a CTRL-E or CTRL-B please advise on how I can recover the password with resseting I am taking over from the previous engineer and need to manage the switch.

@Thuso I meant to say I want to recover the password or set a new password without resetting the switch.

Thank you for your feedback I did some research about that. At first, if you see unreadable text during boot, it might be a problem with the console connection, baud rate, or terminal settings. Recovering the password without a reset is usually tough and often not possible for security reasons. The usual way to recover a password is to reset the device to factory settings, which you're trying to avoid. If you're using a USB-to-serial adapter, try a different one or make sure the drivers are installed correctly. You can also try the Linuxadmin method with this link andvideo, or consider these other methods. Restroe factory default onpg823  or SmartFabric OS10: Password Recovery

Hope that helps!
