Accessing 2716 Web Interface

I have just connected my PC to the 2716 and I am attempting to access the web interface.

I have plugged my network cable into the port #1 and I have orange light on one side and a green light on the other.

I have plugged the other end of the network cable into my pc.  The green light is on for the network card.

When I type in 192.168.2.1 I get  the "site not found search page"

The switch is not connecte to the internet (DSL modem/router)

I have no idea what I am doing wrong..do I need to return the unit?

This switch operates in two mode - "managed" and "unmanaged".  Please look at your documentation for how to bring the switch up in managed mode.  If the switch is in managed mode then you should be able to ping the IP address on the switch if you are connected to it and your PC is configured with an IP address that is in the same subnet as the default IP address of the switch (switch default IP is 192.168.2.1).

So do the following:

  • Put your switch into managed mode.
  • Make sure your PC is configured so that it has an IP address in the same subnet as 192.168.2.1.  For example, you can setup your PC to 192.168.2.2 with mask 255.255.255.0.
  • Connect this PC to the switch.
  • Ping the switch 192.168.2.1 address to make sure you can see it.  If you can't then perhaps your PC IP address is not setup properly or the switch is not in managed mode.
  • If you can ping it then try to connect your web browser to it and login (again please refer to your documentation for default login information - user name is "admin" and password is left blank).
  • Please make sure you are using IE 6.0 or better and Firefox 1.0.6 or better.

Cuong.
