10Gbps with Dell 7048 switches
Hello,
I was hoping to use a couple of Dell PowerConnect 7048 switches I've inherited. I (maybe wrongly) misunderstood that I could use them as 48x 1Gbps and an 10Gbps unlink using the rear SPF+ cards present on both
Both devices have the SPF+ cards 0J3PC9 and I've connected then together using 8Gbps SPF+ transceivers and while I can see both the SPF+ cards AND the ports connected, they have connected at 1Gbps.
My initial question is, can I use these devices as intended, ie, 48x 1Gbps with one of the SPF+ ports on the back as a 10Gbps unlink?
If yes, should it automatically negotiate at 8Gbps as per the SPF+ transceivers maximun speed (it is connected in lab with 1m cable)? Or do I have to set it somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.
"My initial question is, can I use these devices as intended, ie, 48x 1Gbps with one of the SPF+ ports on the back as a 10Gbps unlink?"
Ans: Yes you can use it..
"If yes, should it automatically negotiate at 8Gbps as per the SPF+ transceivers maximum speed (it is connected in lab with 1m cable)? Or do I have to set it somewhere?"
Ans: There is 10G SFP+ module available.
1G spf+ and 10G sfp+ found on the market, but I have never heard about 8G sfp+ so far.
2G,4G,8G, 16G or 32G sfp+ modules are present for FC standard
but there is no 8G for ethernet standard sfp+ modules on the market.

Hello @DELL-Young E
Thanks for taking the time to reply, attached is the transceiver I am using. Looking it up it claims to be SFP+ 8Gb.
No matter what I try I can only get it to register at 1Gb.
I have some Dell branded SFP+ transceivers on the way, will be interesting to see if they behave differently.
