Unserved License?

Hello everyone,

after weeks of asking for help from support, i will try here.

We upgraded to Networker 9.2.1 and wanted to use an unserved license (i.e. without emc licensing server).

While we got a corresponding license file which should work, a CLP-UE-15 license was registered after upgrade.

This seems to expect a licensing server.

Support deleted the CLP-UE-15, but it was recreated (with new expiry date) on server start.

How should unserved licenses really work?  And what to do about the CLP-UE-15?`

Thanks for help

From  the NetWorker 9.2.x Release notes (Decemner 1, 2017):

Unserved NetWorker licenses

NetWorker 9.2.1 allows you to use a served or unserved license, which is specified in the license file you obtain from Dell EMC Licensing.

A served license requires installation and configuration of the EMC License Server, also known as the CLP License Server. An unserved license does not require you to install the License Server or open any associated firewall ports to enable communication with the License Server.

Also from the same document: Under General Issues:

When you use an unserved license, a misleading message appears in NMC.  The following message is applicable to served licenses only and should not appear (with unserved licenses):

To complete your licensing, please validate and ensure that the same license file is copied on the license server in one of the following locations:

1. On Windows, C:\Program files\EMC license Server\elms\licenses

2. On Linux, /opt/emc/licenses/

These messages can be ignored if you are using an unserved license.
