PSS running full instead of synth full after retry
Hello all,
does someone know this behaviour in NetWorker? We configured a PSS backup. A syntethic full was started, but an issue caused a retry and then a full backup was executed. As this caues a higher space usage, I'm wondering if someone already ran into the same issue and if it is just a bug.
Thanks a lot for your ideas.
best regards

Parallel Save Stream (PSS) is a method which '... automatically splits up the backup data into multiple save streams so that they can be backed up simultaneously.' The major benefit is to reduce the overall backup time.
Now, if NW has a backup problem - especially with the recognition of the full starting the backup cycle - it is useful to start a new cycle and run the true full now. This is the normal behavior which should be used by all backup software solutions. This of course will also happen if this is a 'normal' (not a PSS) backup. With the info you provided so far, this should be the expected behavior.
The logs should also show the reason why NW will override the backup level. Please read them carefully for details. If this does not please you, please state at least the OS & NW version.

Also depending on the NW version behaviour of PSS might differ. From nw18.2 onwards, there were some great improvements (at least on paper) and added functionality/options.
So what version on server/client is being used? above or below 18.2?
For actually great improvement when dealing with millions of files BBB proved to be much faster than PSS could ever achieve. With 500GB 30+ millions of files PSS would still not finish within 24h while BBB is done within an hour the very first run even (incr BBB backups runtime depend on amount of changed data blocks).
An yes, BBB also has its drawbacks, which lie outside of the functionality but rather no client file index (so to be able to look for files to recover one has to mount a backup as iscsi target) and always reporting backups as full (not much fun when billing customers based on amount of backup data retained) and only support for windows and linux.
But if that is all no problem, then BBB really flies!
