NMM SQL backups

Hello,

I'm currently looking for some users experience with the backups of SQL DBs with NetWorker (NMM).  I'll like to know if anyone is actually doing a DIFF everyday and logs every 15 mins (including while the DIFF is actually being run)

My current customer is actually doing this, but DELL/EMC support is telling us that this shouldn't be done with NetWorker.

Any informations about this would be helpful,

Thank you,

Chris

What shouldn't be done, the daily DIFF's, while also running tx log backups?

We have multiple MSSQL envs that run daily fulls, with very frequent tx log backups as well. I can recall issues in the past when having multiple savegroups run with the intention to have different retentions, while forgetting to skip the backups in the other groups, for example when you had separate groups for week/month and year backups) and overlapping full backups, that NW would loose track of what belonged to what, during recovery. But I believe that was addressed to prevent that.

And yes, having regular backup to achieve a low RTO by using very high backup frequncies, might not be the best of options to achieve that (for example it is killed when haing NW backup server planned maintenance when upgrading for example).

Logshipping with a high available approach on application level - to me - seems a better approach. Or other solutions like Recoverpoint, to get even better RTO, as it offers CDP (continuous data protection).

High tx logs frequency is the cheap way out (and thus misusing backup, the same for backups with long retentions instead of using a archive solution).
