NetWorker Instant/File Level Recovery vs. ESXi Firewall

Has anyone gotten Instant Recovery or File Level Recovery (FLR) working when the ESXi Host has its firewall enabled?

This Dell Support Article states that a "Request For Enhancement (RFE) NW-I-2300" was filed with Broadcom to provide a Dell-supported VIB to introduce a corresponding ESXi firewall ruleset, but no public update is available as of now.

As I see it, apart from using traditional VM recovery as a workaround, the only way to get it working would be to disable the ESXi firewall, correct?
(also, maybe create a custom VIB but that process seems to be very involved)
