Networker + Data Domain – NWK server Database Location (NWK Server or DD)?
If a new solution only has a Networker Server & Data Domains (DD & DDBoost) with no storage nodes where can the NWK Server databases live?
Apparently they can live on DD is that correct? Is it of all them (Configuration, Media, Client file indices and Jobs) or just some?
Same with the NMC server that is located on the same NWK server, can its NMC database live on the DD?
If it can be done, is it a good idea?
Why : You could virtualize the NWK Server with minimal configuration if you wanted to.

Installing NW on a DD is not possible as it works with a non-standard OS (DDOS). Of course this statement is also true for NMC.

I am aware of that.
I'm looking at the configuration of a NWK server plus multiple DDs.

Of course you can use one NW server with multiple devices (AFTD or DDboost) which can live on multiple DDs as well. However, your last statement is different than your first one.
If you mean anything else then please explain in more details as I/we obviously do not understand your question).

Nw client and resource db's always are deployed on the nw server itself. I would never ever put them on nfs share for example if that is what you mean with "live"? You could create nfs or cifs shares on a DD and put data on it, however for the required i/o I would not wanna use that for a backup server, ever. Would also make ddos patching somewhat more intrusive as one would have to shutdown nw services.
If you however mean with "live" if nw server protection backup (so containing the bootstrap backup and nw client indices) towards a DD, ofcourse it can.
Officially still such backups should go towards a device connected directly to the nwserver and not via a nw storage node (but one could trick that by specifying a nw storage for thr nw server, but it creates an additional requirement when performing a desaster recovery, hence it is advised against for nw bootstrap backups.
