NetWorker and Cleaning Tapes / Cleaning Tape slots

I am running NetWorker 19.5.0.5 and have a Dell ML6000. ( I am not the one who installed both systems!)

Networker is complaining that he cant find a cleaning tape. In the settings auto cleaning is activated and a cleaning slot is defined (slot 113).

Now this is difficult for me to describe as a non native speaker.

I have two cleaning slots in the ML6000. Those are defined by the library I cant change/move them to another slot.

Networker however is ignoring those two slots. He is just skipping those two slots in his numbering. Slot 113 is a normal slot for a data tape.

I dont know how to tell Networker to recognize those cleaning tape slots and I cant move a cleaning tape to a "normal" slot.

Any help is appreciated.

NetWorker has its own (independent) cleaning mechanism.

You usually insert the cleaning tape(s) into the last slot(s).

Then, while configuring the jukebox, you specify these slots to be reserved for cleaning tapes. This is it.

If you need to add additional cleaning tapes you

 - First have to decrease the number of mag tapes by the number of new CL tapes.

 - Increase the number of cleaning slots appropriately

 - Add the new CL Tapes.

As this may become tricky for an untrained person, may i suggest that ...

 - you delete the jukebox resource. It is just a config issue.

 - you insert the CL tapes. NW will recognize them automatically.

 - run jbconfig again and follow the few steps to install a SCSI jukebox

Another method would be:

 - you delete the jukebox resource. It is just a config issue.

 - you insert the CL tapes. NW will recognize them automatically.

 - you run the auto-detection & configuration routine from the NW Admin GUI.

If the Dell ML6000 is configured to do the cleaning (which it sounds like it is - since you mention that you can't change the cleaning slots) then you can also disable NetWorker so that it doesn't do the cleaning.  It is not a good idea to have both the library firmware and the NetWorker software to both clean the tape drives.

There is a Cleaning area in the properties of the Library and often it should be left with the option for cleaning disabled so that automatic cleaning is not invoked by NetWorker and the Tape Library can do its own cleaning without NetWorker.

If you want to have NetWorker do the cleaning you can disable the library in NetWorker (when it is idle) and then adjust the slot numbers so that if the cleaning slot is 113-113 you can adjust it to the correct slots - say to 110-111 or whatever it is.  The available slots for back up tapes will need to be adjusted so it doesn't overlap with the cleaning slots.

Once the slots are adjusted you can re-enable the library again.

This would be a possible option in the event that NetWorker is not recognizing the cleaning tape automatically - it usually does based on the bar code on the cleaning tapes as was mentioned in bingo.1's post.
