how to restore unix directory on networker 8.2

Hello All;

I am new on networker. I have question about restoring unix directory. How can I restore a unix directory on networker ? My networker system is 8.2.4.12 running redhat server , connecting with quantum scalar i80. I already inject restore tapes into quantum scalar i80 library but don't know to synchronize from networker system. Can you please give me step to step how to restore a directory or file on networker. Thank you.

  1. Sync the true content of your library with NW by running an inventory from the NW Admin GUI or the command line (nsrjb -I)
  2. cd to the destination directory
  3. run "recover [-s your_nw_server]". This command works now in interactive mode and has a built-in rudimentary help - available with "help".
  4. "add" the files & directories you want to recover.
  5. Set other options, if necessary.
  6. Enter "recover" again to start the process and monitor it.
  7. Exit the program.

As mentioned, you should run an inventory. So the key letter is a capital "i", not a lowercase "l".

For more information, see the Command Line Reference for the nsrjb command. The appropriate part starts as follows:

– I       Performs an inventory on the jukebox’s contents. Use this option to ensure that the mapping between slot number and volume name is correct. If necessary, the volumes in the specified slots may be loaded into a device, so their labels may be read. This option can take a long time to complete depending on the type of jukebox.

It looks like it failed because another restore job running. Should I wait until restore completes then I run inventory  ? Thank you.

An inventory is only necessary after you swapped tapes. This is how the true jukebox content will be recognized and synched with the NW tape library database. It is only necessary if you opened the jukebox 'door'. Usually, a jukebox contains one or more mailslots (aka cartridge access ports or CAP). If you import/export cartridges via the CAP you usually control this via the NW Admin GUI (nsrjb in the end) so the databases will be synched by these operations.

And yes, an inventory should only be run if the jukebox is idle.

To get the current list of tapes the NW jukebox knows of, simply run "nsrjb" by itself.
