How to identify on which storage node backup is running?

Hi,

I am using NetWorker 8.2.0.3.Build.495. I have given two storage nodes for each client. From where it can be seen that which storage node is being used?

Sid_mathur,

If the backup is complete you can render the daemon.log file you will be able to see the client savesets being written to the volume/pool start from when group starts and you should be able to see which of the two storage nodes are utilised.

If the backup is running then look on the Monitoring tab at devices/log and you should be able to see which Storage node devices are busy and with which volume.

Having two storage nodes in the client Storage node list is fine, it just means it will try to use the first in the list, if this is already busy with all devices being used or is unavailable for some reason it will move to the next in the list. This means backup should still succeed if first is not available for some reason (planned maintenance) and there is no need to change anything within the environment.

I am not sure why you need this information as backup success/volume used is most important – perhaps if you tell us why you need to know this we will be able to better advise?

Regards,

Bill Mason

Hello @sid_mathur

You have different options:

1.- Check in the client configuration, tab "Globals 2 of 2" and see the SN list.

2.- During a backup check the device in use, and that will tell you the storage node in use

3.- You can always check the logs

Thank you,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

1. In the logs, no where it is mentioned that which storage node is used. Take for example:

2. If in the "Globals 2 of 2", i have given two storage nodes, what will be the scenario of selecting the Storage Node? Like, for backups which storage node will be preferred?

Thanks William for the explanation. Yes, backup success is important and the backups are getting completed successfully.

I just wanted to know on which basis the Storage Nodes are selected and whether giving two storage nodes for the single client is ok in the Networker Environment.

Thanks Carlos Rojas and William Mason for the help.

You can check the volumen where the backup was written and like that you can know about the storage node.

Anyway the best way is to see the device in use during the bakcup.

Thank you,

Carlos

Thanks for the help Carlos.

Since i am new to the tool, can you please guide me on the selection of storage node?

1. As if, two storage nodes are there in the SN list, so on what basis the storage node will be selected?

2. Is it ok, to give two storage nodes for the single client?
