How to CLI recover Hyper-V VM in Federated backup

Hi experts,

My env is Hyper-V cluster ( 4 nodes) with NW 8.2 Federated Backup all VMs with NMM.

Now I want to recover a VM to its original location through CLI so that I can integrate it with the cloud portal. I can't find how to do it. The NW VSS UG only talks about restore using NMM client. Nothing about CLI recover.

I tried use "recover -S " , it didn't work.

Does anyone have answer? Any hint is appreciated.

Allen

Hello allenwliu

>>>Do you mean NMM Client GUI is the only way to restore this kind of VM backups? NMM GUI is interactive manual operations. What we want to do is to have a script to run restore and pass all necessary parameters to NW. So that users can hit a button and restore is running till finish.

[CR]: Yes, NMM GUI is the only way to perform the restore, so not possible to use scripts for that purpose.

>>>You mean these jobs are being done by NMM Client GUI, right?

[CR]: Yes, the recovery type options are selected in NMM GUI, and all these options are described in the documentation.

Please let me know if you need any further information, and if you consider this question as answered please mark it so.

Thank you,

Carlos

Hello allenwliu

You cannot perform saveset recovery with NMM besides, as you will need to use the MS Hyper-V writer for the restore, you need to use NMM GUI for this restore.

You can select to do a restore overwriting the actual VM (it has to be turned off, or the Hyper-V writer will do it for you) or restore to an alternate location, and from there you will be able to do whatever is needed with the VM.

Thank you,

Carlos

Thanks , Carlos. You have almost completely answered my question. I just want to confirm I understand your answer correctly:
