Extra Disk addition license question
Hello
Just a generic question
If we have to add an extra disk to Data Domain. I understand we need to buy a license module to install a new disk and since we use networker for backup. Is the disk addition is related to the networker software backup cycles or the amount of backup taken via netwoker to Data Domain ?

Any capacity license for either Networker or Data Domain are separate from each other. So if you need to add disk space to the data domain, you'd have to pay for that, regardless if you use it or not. It is about being able to get more usable capacity.
For Networker if you are using capacity based licensing, it is all about the front-end protected capacity (largest backup in the last 60 days for all clients combined) that determines how much you need licensed. So if that does not increase, then increasing the capacity on the DD does not need a higher NW capacity license.
So there is no direct link between the two.
Except if you need to backup more and need more capacity on the DD to be able to do so. But not when the goal is to have the DD occupation percentage drop by adding more capacity, then only the DD licensed capacity will need to increase.
