DDVE to NetWorker Connection - invalid attribute not a valid host name

Hello community,

First time deployment for me using both DataDomain Virtual Edition and Networker (VM).

I've deployed DDVE and already have it hooked into using other backup products quite efficiently. I'd also like to explore using NetWorker (currently running 9.1.02 build 43 Evaluation).

When adding a new device for the DD, I run through the wizard and get:

Adding new Data Domain Device "DDVELAB_DDVENetworker"

Operation Failed

Invalid value for attribute 'device access information'. Name 'DDVELAB' is not a valid host name.

I've browsed the forums and the obvious proposal is of course DNS, but I've flushed DNS through, rebooted both the DDVE, DC and Networker servers. All can happily ping each other and if I throw an incorrect password into the wizard, it DOES fail to authenticate, so it must be doing some form of communication over DNS successfully.

Any other ideas guys? Would be great to get it hooked and start messing....

What about a forgotten hosts file?

You could also use the new NetWorker Test Tool to validate your settings.

Thanks Bingo,

When you say "forgotten hosts file" - what do you mean by this?

I have a DNS server which has the correct records, I can even create a local hosts file on the window server running NetWorker. DNS is also configured on the DataDomain.

Do you mean I should really add in a dedicated hosts file on the DataDomain also - is that a suitable suggestion?

No - i just mean that there is the possibility that you have a hosts file on one of the participating servers which you might have forgotten to delete or to empty.

Such happens more often than you might expect.
