Cannot use BBB for CIFS share backup
Hello folks,
I need to backup a CIFS share which I have manually mounted as drive Z:\ to my NetWorker server (Windows Server 2012 R2, v18.1.0.2).
In the documentation is mentioned that mount points can be backed up with the block-based backup feature:
Volume mount points—Specify volume mount points as save sets. For
example:
D:\mount_point_name (for a single mount point)
D:\mount_point_name1\mount_point_name2\mount_point_name3
(for nested mount points)
So I created a straight forward client resource with the BBB flag set to yes and "Z:\" in the save set field.
But I get the message:
"\\ \:No such file or directory"
Can anyone help?

Normally the NetWorker service runs under the SYSTEM-account. So when you create a CIFS-share for your account the SYSTEM-account cannot access it because it only exists for you.
You can try to specifiy a remote user in the client resource. Make sure that the CIFS-share is mounted everytime the user logs in.
Do you want to perform a one-time backup of this share or a regular backup?
It it's only a one-time backup, I suggest you simply perform a manual save to back it up once.
And generally speaking the better option would be to back up the share directly on the source if that's possible.
EG if the CIFS share is provided by a VNX for example you should back up the share directly on the VNX. If the CIFS share comes from a Data Domain, well, then you to back it up via the client.
