Bare metal Restore of Unix/Linux machines using Networker or Avamar

Can we perform Bare metal Restore of Unix/Linux machines using Networker or Avamar? If yes , please share the link to documentation. I can't find it anywhere. We are planning to migrate from NetBackup to Networker/Avamar solution but our main requirement is to be able to restore our physical Unix/Linux machines using BMR

Since years, there is a built-in BMR procedure for Windows hosts. You will find details in the NW Admin Guide. Look for the paragraph "Performing a Windows BMR to physical or virtual computers".

BMR for Linux can be achieved with 3rd party tools. One of them is Christie's BMR software. You can find more infos here: https://www.cristie.com/products/abmr1/dell-emc/

I have tested this almost 10 years ago and found it pretty easy to use.

To be honest, I never understood, why Networker can integrate with winpe of windows, as made available through the bootable iso provided by Dell, but never did offer such solution for linux? Or unix variants? I am not counting Homebase, that legato offered in nw6 or 7, can't recall. That product they bought and integrated with NW, never really took off... way too overcomplicated, having to setup profiles and what not?

You can also build your own by integrating a NW client into a linux live cd. So a bootable iso (from usb for example).

So possibly a persistent live cd :https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14912/create-a-persistent-bootable-ubuntu-usb-flash-drive/

Or look into ReaR, relax-and-recover: http://relax-and-recover.org/documentation/

Which also has some integration with NW (https://backupinferno.de/?p=358 describes how to use it for nw8 (in German)).

As things move towards virtualization more and more, Dell might not care too much about DR, instead for vm's, you might wanna use the nw vproxy approach, however that is only for vmware (whereas for hyper-v NW has yet another approach using the nw nmm module). With nw vproxy, you'd have image level backups of the vm's, so easy to recover or restore as a new vm.

Cristie's tool looks interesting. Can we also restore the application back to the state in the even of catastrophic failure. Let's say on a linux box I'm running Oracle database or mongo DB, can I restore it back to orginal state to the point when the backup was taken? If yes, how can i configure such BMR backups in Netwoker/Avamar. I mean what is the directive to be used to configure both OS and application data?

Of course not. And as Such tools are system-specific, they do not 'know' applications. The only thing they understand are 'system-applications'.

"You can only recover what has been backed up."
