Backup File srver too heavy

Hi,

I'm working with Networker 7.5.3 using Windows 2k3. These times backing up file server is like climbing kiliminjaro. jobs that user to  backed up in less than 2hours takes more than 2 days. The wrinting speed is less than 10Kb/s.

when I explore the file server, I found in event log lot of messages of Navisphere agent (the message is attached).

All backup made bay storage node are OK, the speed is acceptable (50 to 60Mb/s).

any one can help?!

thank you.

For errors from navisphere (is that clariion or vnx that you use?) you should go to more appropriate forum.  Did you try to restart backup server box?  I would stop NW, remove content of /nsr/tmp and just restart it.  You are also using ancient version of NW, but I guess you have old environment.  This does not help either

Hi saadi,

nobody can help you with this tiny 'pool' of information. We can only guess.

If the file system you are backing up consists of a high number of tiny files, these writings speeds are not unusual, even if you backup to disk.

If you backup to tape the tape drive behavior will negatively influence the data rate. Usually, the faster the potential tape speed is, the resulting backup speed will decrease due to a huge number of reposition cycles. But you need to test that as the result is specific for your configuration.

So may I suggest that you read the "Performance Optimization Planning Guide" so that you get an idea about the 'area' in your configuration that is causing the issue. Then check whether you can optimize it.

Thanks bingo.

but my question is: why I receive an error message in event log (on the file server) from Navisphere agent? this message doesn't stop.

Honestly ... it might become true that nobody else here might answer this.

You better ask the appropriate forum.

Hi Hrvoje,

I've just seen your response right now. I use clariion CX700 with win2k3 and networker 7.5.

that's what I've done this morning and it seems working.

thanks a lot.
