U4025QW, charging macbook with 90W instead of 140W

Hello,

I have the U4025QW monitor. Based on the user guide and the specs, the thunderbolt cable connection can be used to also charge the laptop if it supports EPR 140W power charging. I have a M3 Max 16" MacBook Pro connected to the monitor with the TB4 cable.

As shown below, the charging power in that case is only 90w (command: "system_profiler SPPowerDataType"):

If I connect the original Apple Magsafe power adapter the output shows 140w as expected:

Shouldn't the Dell monitor charge the MacBook with 140W as well?

The User's Guide states for #6 TB4 upstream port, "Power Delivery up to 140W". It does not state, "Will provide maximum Power Delivery of 140W to all computers". Could using an Apple 1.5 M TB4 cable change this, unknown. Apple U4025QW users might be able to tell you.

90W is the official max for Thunderbolt 4.  Yes, there are monitor+system combinations that can negotiate more, but it's unlikely your Mac notebook will negotiate with a Dell monitor.
