U4025QW, cannot update to M3T103, DDPM not working

Has anyone been able to update their firmware? Mine fails every time. Also, when install DDPM, it tells me that my device isn't supported. I loved my U2720QM. I had two of them and had none of these issues. I pay $1500 for this new one, and it's nothing but problems.

Dell Support must verify the ownership and warranty status. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private U4025QW Service Tag with them.

What specific Mac model and operating system?

In the U4025QW Menu---> Others, DDC/CI must be On.

Alternative = Connect the U4025QW to a Windows OS PC and run the Windows OS firmware.

Go to the U4025QW Drivers & Downloads page. Change Operating system to Windows 11 to see =
(Dell_U4025QW_FWUpdate_M3T103_Windows.exe)

Changing the Drivers & Downloads--> Operating system to Apple Mac OS, DDPM is not listed? But I do see U4025QW in the DDPM V1.3.2.0015 A00, "Compatible Systems". So something is incorrect there.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows machine.

I did try this on my other Macbook Pro (this is one is an M1 Pro instead of the M1 Max) but it still has Sonoma on it, whereas my other MBP is on the newest OS (Sequoia). I was able to get DDPM to actually work on this one. Instead of everything being grayed out I was able to see and use the entire menu for adjusting the display. Maybe it's a Sequoia issue?

As for the firmware update, it still failed on me. I'm using the supplied TB4 cable that came with the U4025QW. I can try one of my other TB4 cables to see if it's the cable.

I have an older Intel Macbook Pro that I could try on as well. Unfortunately, that one is on Sequoia so I'm afraid the DDPM will have the same issue. I'll give it a shot and report back.

BTW, I reached ou to the live Chat about verifying my ownership/warranty. It was just a virtual assistant that didn't really provide me any details. I'm now waiting for a live person. I do know when I view my product on Dell.com it shows my warranty is good until December 2027.

Yeah, so unfortunately, it hasn't worked with any of my three Macbook Pros.

2018 Intel Mac running Sequoia: DDPM does work and recognizes the monitor, fails at installing the firmware at around 30%

2021 Silicon Mac (M1 Pro) Sonoma: DDPM does work and recognizes the monitor, fails at installing the firmware at 30%

2021 Silicon Mac (M1 Max) Sequoia: DDPM installs but does not recognize the monitor as a device/peripheral installed (yet the monitor works fine), fails at installing the firmware at 30%

I tried another Thunderbolt 4 cable, to make sure it wasn't an issue with the Dell supplied TB4 cable that came with the monitor. Same results.

My only other option is to find someone with a Windows machine to see if they can update it. This is just a bit frustrating when you buy a monitor that retails for almost $2000 and advertises as a 5K Thunderbolt 4 Monitor that would require this kind of jumping through hoops. I'm willing to bet that the bulk of the buyers of this monitor are Mac users.

What happens when you guys have to release another firmware update? I have to call my Uncle Fred to borrow his Windows XP laptop again to update it?

I called Support and the guy sent me a link to an .exe file. 💀

I'm wanting to test and make sure that it's not a power supply/cord issue, by trying another power cord in the monitor. Unfortunately, I don't see anything anywhere that tells me the power requirements. Would my Dell u2720qm power cable be sufficient enough?

I'm just really surprised that someone can spend almost $2K on a monitor and the support over the phone can be that useless. Seriously, do any of them even know what an operating system is? Dude gave me an .exe file to update my firmware (on a Mac). I told him I couldn't use that because it was an .exe and I'm on a Mac and he responded with "okay, sir, so you clicked on that and it didn't work?"

Then told me that my operating system isn't supported, because "this only supports Apple MacOS and Apple MacOS 9".

Ummmmmmmm, what other MacOS is there? hahaha

I'm on the latest Mac OS and I bought a monitor that was manufactured within the last 1-2 years and marketed for "Thunderbolt 4".

Yeah, I think this should just work.

I just tried to go caveman style with a USB-C cable connected an HDMI.

I can't even get the firmware installer to install.

I really just want to get Dell on the phone to be okay with the fact I got a lemon, give me a new one, and be on my merry way.

Instead, I get some dude/dudette on the other line that doesn't even know how to operate a modern day remote for their TV.

Dell, be better. People don't drop $2K on a monitor and expect support like this.

I feel bad for guys like @DELL-Chris M  who have to deal with these things daily, when it's not his job. When, it's the job of a corporation to make things right and to make things right they make their customer's an actual priority regardless of "Basic" or not. We spent more than $1K on something you sold, stop being like that and support it.

Just received mine and had a similar experience.  How I got this to work was to connect a usb lead to port 7 (usb upstream) and disconnect the thunderbolt cable from the 140w (port 6).  (You could probably just swap the lead from port 7 to 6 for the purposes of the firmware upgrade in hindsight).  The monitor won't be on, but the installer succeeds in doing the upgrade in about 20mins.

I should add to the above that I did this using a laptop so I still had a screen to work with.  I guess for those using the monitor alone you might have to try using my suggestion of connecting to port 7 while also having a connection to enable the display.
